An offline Russian proofreader for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Apple's Writing Tools skip Russian, so Gramota fills the gap, entirely on-device.
The challenge
Build a Russian proofreader that runs entirely on-device and prove the engineering, not just claim it.
- Approach
- An app and its site: a fine-tuned 246M-parameter grammar model adapted for the Apple Neural Engine, and a Russian-language marketing site that explains the work with real numbers.
- Result
- 99.7% of model operations run on the ANE, at roughly 17 ms per sentence, a ~130× speed-up after an architecture pivot. Nothing leaves the device.
- Platform
- iPhone, iPad and Mac, on the App Store, with history synced through iCloud.
Approach
Proof, not a promise
Every fix shows as before and after with a 0–100 score, history synced via iCloud and a Share-sheet shortcut. The site explains how the model got fast: 2.1M synthetic training pairs, generated on one Mac.
