An open-source Orthodox daily reader for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. The full Synodal Bible, prayers and the church calendar, offline and with no accounts.
The challenge
Put the whole Orthodox daily office in one place, offline, without asking for an account or any data.
- Approach
- An app and its site: the full Synodal Bible (77 books), 250 prayers, the church calendar, 8,235 dictionary entries and 2,111 lives of saints, plus a warm, Russian-language marketing site.
- Result
- On-device Core ML icon recognition trained on 372 icons, falling back to a shortlist across 3,158 when unsure. No accounts, no analytics, one network request in the whole app.
- Platform
- iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, on the App Store, open source.
Approach
Offline, and reverent
Warm parchment tones and a gilt serif wordmark carry the tone of the app onto the site, which explains the calendar, the dictionary and the icon recognition in plain Russian.
